a Diversity in Film breakfast in Los Angeles

In February 2018, we gathered at Rita House, a Prop Design Studio built in 1926 for film and television and purchased in 1967 by Costume Designer Rita Riggs for her work with Alfred Hitchcock and Norman Lear. Inspired by Rita House and the 2018 Oscars, we hosted a Los Angeles breakfast about Diversity in Film and enjoyed Middle Eastern dishes by the award-winning women-owned LA restaurant Kismet

We partnered with Kismet, an award-winning LA restaurant that reimagines Middle Eastern flavors for current-day California. We enjoyed Cucumber Salad with Green Zhoug, Persian Frittata, Barbari Bread, Chocolate Spice Shortbreads, and Feta with Roasted Beets, Onion, and Orange Blossom.

We talked about Diversity in Film with Denise Hewett, CEO and Founder of Scriptd, a digital screenplay marketplace to bolster scripts from underrepresented groups, and Mishel Prada, co-star in the new STARZ Latinx drama series Vida, a half-hour drama series focusing on two Mexican-American sisters from the Eastside of Los Angeles.

We gathered at Rita House. Built in 1926 as a Prop Design Studio for film and television, the Spanish Colonial style building was later a violin factory and in 1967 Costume Designer Rita Riggs purchased the building and made it her studio for her work with everyone from Alfred Hitchcock to Norman Lear.

FUTURE OF WOMEN is a unifying platform that creates original multimedia content and programming by, for, and about women around the world to openly look at the pursuit of being a modern woman. In 2018, we began collaborating with award-winning female chefs worldwide, from Los Angeles to Mexico City to Tel Aviv to Tokyo, to host a monthly women's breakfast series featuring game-changing women such as Olympic athletes, Emmy-winning producers, top Billboard musicians, and New York Times journalists on topics including architecture, sports, art, music, journalism, and human rights.

Special thanks to Shreebs Coffee for providing delicious coffee from their Echo Park woman-owned coffee company, Victoire Loup for her foodie expertise, Jenny Feinberg for hosting us at Rita House, Spread The Love Foods for post-breakfast coworking snacks, and Ruby Maxwell for these beautiful photographs.
